Spring cleaning made easier with our tips

Did you know that spring cleaning, or Easter cleaning, is called that because it derives from the Jewish custom of cleaning the house in honor of Passover, the holiday celebrating the liberation of the Jewish people from Egypt?

During this holiday, which marked the transition to spring and a symbolic spiritual renewal, it was mandatory to purify oneself: there was a prohibition on eating any food containing yeast and one had to clean the house to rid it of any trace of yeast and dust. From the religious rite, this custom passed to tradition and later to habit, perhaps because the symbolic aspect of spring rebirth maintains its charm, but certainly also because the first warm weather is the ideal opportunity to open all the windows and give the home environment a good cleaning.

On the other hand, the winter gray hides a few too many cobwebs, but with the beautiful days one can see the dust nestled in the corners well and feel like taking matters into one's own hands!

Pulizie di primavera complete, semplici e poco stressanti

First advice: choose the right moment and share the commitment

If you want to know when to do spring cleaning, it's simple: when the nice days arrive and you can finally open the windows, wash the curtains and hang them outside, and take a day or a weekend to dedicate to the house without stress. Take an example from the Jewish tradition of doing Easter cleaning all together: turning it into a pleasant moment of sharing is the best way to make it less burdensome.

Second tip: organize the work

Do not improvise and do not overdo it: set yourself achievable goals and take the time necessary to do things calmly, planning. Your schedule can be organized based on the type of house you have and your preferences.

You could decide to organize by environment, completing one room at a time, or you could organize by type of operation, for example, starting first with all the curtains, textiles, and sofas, then all the chandeliers, then all the fixtures, and so on. Another golden rule: start from the top and then work your way down, so as not to throw dust where you have already cleaned.

The important thing is to organize yourself so as not to forget anything. Do not be afraid of this long list of operations that you can choose to include in your schedule:

Curtains

Spring is the right season to take down all the curtains, wash and iron them, bringing a breath of freshness to the whole house.

Wardrobe:

reorganizing clothes for the change of season is a great opportunity to thoroughly clean the inside of wardrobes and drawers. Don't forget to dust the hangers and take the opportunity to remove what you no longer use and freshen up what remains. Do not throw away old clothes, but sell them or donate them to charity! And remember that there is a lot of dust on the wardrobe: take the opportunity when the wardrobe is empty to clean the outside as well.

Mattresses and sofas:

It's time to turn the mattress and free it from dust and mites. You can do it with the traditional beater, but it will certainly be easier and more effective with an electric beater. Choose a cutting-edge product like the Mattress Beater Girmi. With cushions that vibrate 3000 times per minute and a suction force of 10 kPa, it cleans deeply into the fibers without damaging even the most delicate fabrics. That is why it is perfect for non-removable sofas, especially if there are pets in the house or if you suffer from allergies. Equipped with a UV lamp and HEPA filter, this appliance kills up to 99% of bacteria, allergens, and dust mites, preventing their reappearance.

doors, windows and fixtures:

It is a demanding job, but once in a while it is good to dust and wash all internal and external doors, shutters, mosquito nets and blinds, in addition to the windows.

Baseboards and floors:

the floors are regularly cleaned but the baseboards are often forgotten. Every now and then it is advisable to do a deeper cleaning, removing dust even from the hidden corners and from the profiles of the baseboards. It will be useful to rediscover the "forgotten" accessories of your vacuum cleaner, including those nozzles that allow you to vacuum with precision in the corners and at the point of contact between the floor and the baseboards, where dirt is pushed during routine cleaning operations.

Chandeliers:

especially if they are made of glass, you can use a microfiber cloth soaked in water and a little vinegar. The rule "from top to bottom" always applies, so chandeliers always come before the floors! But first: watch out for spider webs.

Radiators:

after letting the radiator vent, start by vacuuming the dust, for which the nozzle of the vacuum cleaner will be useful. Subsequently, you will need to move on to a deeper cleaning, which you can do with a sponge and water with a degreasing detergent, or with a steam cleaner, which does not require the use of products.

Carpets:

In addition to beating the carpets outdoors, an electric beater can also be useful for their complete cleaning. However, every now and then, it's better to have them taken to the laundry!

Bathroom and shower tiles:

normal bathroom cleaning usually does not involve a thorough cleaning of the tiles with a specific product, but when you tackle this task you will discover how much dust literally sticks to the surfaces, creating a difficult film to remove. In this case, a specific product can be useful steam cleaner, just as with the shower, where mold and limescale buildup.

Bathroom furniture:

in bathroom cabinets and shelves, cosmetics and products that you never use often accumulate, not to mention dust and hair. During your deep cleaning sessions, take the opportunity to empty the furniture, throw away expired products, vacuum and wash surfaces, give towels and other textiles a refresh.

Kitchen cabinets and pantry:

the same goes for the kitchen, where often packages of open and never finished or sometimes expired products accumulate. A proper cleaning of the kitchen involves a thorough washing of the cabinets, even the highest and normally "unreachable" ones, with a degreasing product, in addition to a reorganization of the pantry.

Appliances:

it is very important to clean the refrigerator thoroughly, defrost the freezer, renew the washing machine, dryer and dishwasher with a filter and hose cleaning and the use of a specific sanitizer for the care of the appliance. Only then will you truly feel the scents of spring!

Balconies and terraces:

soon they will start using them again, so it is the right time to prepare them for the nice season with a deep cleaning, which includes the railings, furnishings, outdoor lights and floors.

Third tip: be prepared

There is nothing more frustrating than deciding to dedicate Sunday to annual cleaning only to find yourself in the middle of it without the detergent you need or the right appliance. For this reason, as soon as you have thought about your schedule, make a nice list of everything you need and go stock up on specific detergents, sponges, dust-catching cloths, brushes, and various tools for your cleaning. Even old clothes made of natural fibers that you no longer use are excellent to reuse to create cleaning cloths. If you are a fan of natural detergents, vinegar and baking soda are ingredients that should not be missing, especially for cleaning the kitchen and steel surfaces.
